Linda Jean Johnson Welch, 67 of High Point left this life to go to her heavenly home on Thursday, July 12, 2018.
Linda was born July 27, 1950 in Kings Mountain, NC to the late Felix Johnson and Margaret Moss Johnson. Linda was also welcomed into the family of Frank and Jane Shirley. She was preceded in death by two brothers; Terry Johnson, Steve Blanton and sister; Paula Cribb. Linda was a devoted and caring mother to her children and was “Mawmaw” to her “Precious Angels.”
Linda, a member of Emerywood Baptist Church, will be remembered for living a life devoted to service and guided by her strong Christian faith. Her life is best defined by the bountiful and meaningful connections she made with individuals from all walks of life. These connections were nurtured through her various service activities, including volunteering her time and talents to aide homeless youth and adults in the triad, and working with at-risk children during her thirty year tenure with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System. Linda began her life of service by attending Gardner Webb University where she earned her Bachelors of Social Work and UNC Chapel Hill where she completed her graduate studies. She went on to discover her life-long passion for children at Mills Home in Thomasville.
Linda is survived by, Bill Morrow of High Point, children; Brent Cockrum and wife, Dawn of Winston-Salem, Nathan Cockrum of Philadelphia, Shannon Skeen and husband, Brian of Trinity, brothers; Mack Blanton, Joe Blanton, Timmy Johnson, Bobby Shirley, Tom Shirley, sisters; Amanda Blanton, Billie Potter, Susan Hubbard, Beverly Whaley, grandchildren; Katie Skeen, Ryan Skeen, Lauren Cockrum, Lily Cockrum; great grandson Jase Simmons and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service to honor Linda’s life will be held 11:00am on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Emerywood Baptist Church 1300 Country Club Drive, High Point, North Carolina 27262 with Rev. Timothy Peoples and Doris Stocks officiating. Burial will follow the service at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point.
The family will receive friends at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive in High Point on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00pm.
