Mr. Lloyd Franklin Slone, 69, resident of Trinity, died August 7, 2018 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Slone was born January 8, 1949 in Mingo County, W.Va., a son to the late Lundy L. and Goldie Perry Slone. He lived in West Virginia, working as a coal miner, until moving to Statesville, NC in 1990 and later to this area in 1995. He was a member of Grace Point United Pentecostal Church and loved southern gospel music. He also enjoyed working on cars and driving tractor trailers with his son. His grandchildren, however, were his greatest passion and family was the focus of his devotion.
Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Patty Lee Slone of the residence; three children, Jeffrey Slone and wife Gavina of Archdale, Lesa Kellione and husband Doug of Trinity and Brandon Slone of Trinity; three siblings, Richard Slone and wife Patty of Varney, W.Va., Nyoka Matney of Taylorsville, N.C. and Terry Stiltner of Troutman, N.C.; six grandchildren, Tracie Slone, Malinda Slone, Kristen Slone, Phillipe Kellione, Daniel Kellione and Amythest Slone; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Danny Lee Slone in 1981; sister, Zeta Matney; and infant brother, Allen Slone.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Grace Point United Pentecostal Church with Pastor Lark Lewis officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at 9:00 a.m. Monday at the National Cemetery in Salisbury, N.C. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service Friday at the church.
