Loretta Whitaker Welker

HIGH POINT- Loretta Whitaker Welker, 86, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 19, 2020.

She was born on November 10, 1933 in Thomasville, NC, to the late Garrett and Nancy Tiny Wood Whitaker. A resident of this area all her life, she worked as a hairdresser for 36 plus years. Loretta enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bingo, watching birds and deer, and her beloved kitty cats, Tommy and Skeeter. She was a wonderful and loving mother, sister and friend and will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death was her husband, Gary Richard Welker.

She leaves to cherish her memory; her beloved daughter, Dixie Johnson and her son in-law, Gary Johnson, whom she loved as a son, and a brother, Donnie “Don” Whitaker and his wife, Renee.

A service to celebrate Loretta’s life will be held on Thursday afternoon, September 24, at 3 o’clock, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, with Reverend Dr. Eric Peacock officiating. Her family will receive friends following the service.

The family would like to thank the staff of Westchester Manor for their kindness and care of Loretta while she was a resident there. They also would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of 7 south, at Wake Forest Baptist Health, High Point Medical Center, for their excellent care and compassion given to Loretta, and her family, while she was a patient in their care.

Memorials in Loretta’s memory may be made to the Guilford County Animal Shelter, 4525 W. Wendover Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27409.
