Marion Curtis Winebarger

Mr. Marion Curtis Winebarger, 81, of River Landing and formerly of High Point, passed away Monday, November 5, 2018, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. Born April, 8, 1937, in Johnson City, TN, Marion was the son of the late Albert Marchant Winebarger and Ethel Repass Winebarger. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Griffin.

Marion graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1959 (BS – Mathematics); and New Mexico State University in 1964 (MS – Mathematics).

He served in the U.S. Army, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1979, after 20 years of honorable service.  His overseas tours of duty included Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands; Vietnam; Thailand; and Germany.  His most rewarding tour of duty was as an instructor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY teaching mathematics.

After retiring from the military, Marion worked for AT&T/Lucent in Burlington, N.C. and the Guilford Center in Greensboro, N.C. until 1999.

Marion loved golfing, hunting, woodworking, building and refinishing furniture and was an ACC sports enthusiast. He is a member of Emerywood Baptist Church, in High Point.

Marion is survived by his wife Sandra Medford Winebarger, sons Albert Tucker Winebarger and David Lee Winebarger, and grandchildren Colby, Laurel, and Lily.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8th at Alamance Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9th, at Emerywood Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Timothy Peoples. The family will receive friends following the service.
