Magdalene (Culler) Foster, 92, a long-time resident of Davidson County, succumbed to complications from Alzheimer's disease on November 4, 2018.
Magdalene was born on May 19, 1926 in Patrick County, Virginia to the late Johnny Culler and Ora Frye Culler and was preceded in death in 1989 by her husband of more than 40 years, Wilson, and by their son Charles in 1986.
She is survived by her sons, Eric Foster of Davidson County, Johnny Foster (Sue) of Harford County, Maryland, daughter Deborah Lawson (Brett) of Raleigh; grandchildren, Jenna Bauer of Harford County, Maryland and Minka Lawson of Raleigh, and great grandson Dallas Bauer. She had dozens of much-loved nieces and nephews and was especially grateful for Lynne Hackaday.
Magdalene was the eldest sister of the Chaney family and is survived by Allen Chaney of Surry County and Brenda Clifton of Davidson County. She was preceded in death by brothers Prather, JD, Melvin and Raeford Chaney and sisters Goldie Davis, Sylvia Warren, and Frondy Webster. Mrs. Foster was the matriarch of an extended and unique home that included 27 foster children from in and around Davidson County over a period of four decades. Of special note are Ken Davenport of Oklahoma, Matthew Davenport of Alabama, and Molly Foster of Davidson County.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00pm on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive in High Point.
A celebration of Magdalene’s life will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point. Interment will follow at the Burton Street Missionary Methodist Church.
