ARCHDALE- Mary Ellen Tuggle Bowden, 88, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 25, 2021.
She was born on October 26, 1932 in Guilford County, a daughter of the late Rufus and Mary McNeil Tuggle. She was a retired schoolteacher and served the Randolph County School System for 33 years, having last taught at Trindale Elementary School. Mary Ellen was a charter member of Trinity Heights Wesleyan Church, where she taught Vacation Bible school, andserved as church treasurer. She also served on the Local Board of Administration, Young Missionaries Workers Board, Wesleyan Women International, Encouragement Card Ministry, and served as Children’s Christmas Play Director. She was a very caring person with a servant’s heart, willing to help anyone in need. Mary Ellen enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved her Lord, her family and her friends and will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her husband, Donald Bowden; her sisters, Helen Marion and Betty Sue Smith; her stepbrother, J.D. Hill and her stepsister, Margaret Hilliard.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Donna Williams and her husband, Harold and Phillip Bowden; her grandchildren, Stephanie Williams and Justin Williams.
A service to celebrate Mary Ellen’s life will be held on Monday, February 1, at 2 p.m., at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, with Reverend Crawford Crenshaw officiating. The committal service will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. Her family will receive friends on Monday from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
