Mary "Proud Mary" Ruth (Johnson) Smith

KERNERSVILLE – Mary Ruth Johnson Smith, “Proud Mary,” 75, died Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at the Hospice Home of High Point.

She was born June 9, 1943, in High Point and was the daughter of the late Johnnie Clinton and Ophelia Leach Hutchins Johnson.  She was a member of Albertson Road Baptist Church and retired receptionist with Crescent Ford following many years of service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on February 22, 2018, by her husband of 52 years, Ronnie Gray Smith; two sisters, Barbara Wagoner and Martha Glidwell; and a brother, Johnny Johnson, Jr..

Mary is survived by her sons, Robbie Rothrock and his wife, Cindy, of Thomasville and Shane Smith of Kernersville; five grandchildren, Jordan Smith, Brandon Rothrock, Callie Rothrock, Cameron Smith, and Caleb Taylor; and two sisters, Donna Morris and her husband, John, and Brenda McKinley, both of Huntersville.

Funeral service celebrating Proud Mary’s life will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, July 22, 2018, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.  Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday, July 21, 2018, at the funeral home.
