Born in Chili, WI, February 17, 1934 to Dr. Merlin Vernon and LeVaun Ruth Nason, Nancy met James Gretzinger while attending the University of Wisconsin, Madison. They enjoyed sailing, hiking and skiing as part of the Hoofers Club. The couple was married Dec 20, 1954 in Owen, WI. While actively raising children and volunteering, she completed her degree in English Literature at the University of Delaware in 1974. Nancy was a devoted community volunteer. A lifelong Girl Scout, she served as a leader, trainer and board member of the Black Diamond Girl Scout Council in WV.
Nancy and her husband retired in High Point, NC where she continued her volunteer work teaching a generation of young swimmers at the High Point Elks Club. Her love of life and creativity shone in her gifts of hand-made Raggedy Ann dolls, knitted caps for the Neonatal Intensive Care and enthusiastic participation in local quilt guilds. Strong in faith, she supported church as an organist, teacher and active member over her lifetime. She continued her love of the outdoors, gardening, bird walks, hiking and taking elder hostel trips throughout her retirement.
Left with loving memories are her husband, James, her children, Susan Gretzinger of Winchester VA, Anne Hill of Athens, GA, Betsy Wright of West Chester, OH, and Kate Zurschmeide of Bluemont, VA and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In keeping with her love of life and joyful soul, her family is planning a memorial service December 28 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church Chapel at 11am. The family will receive friends immediately following in the Asbury Room.
