Joan Blackwelder Allen, 80, formerly of High Point passed away peacefully surround by her children on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Crystal Bluffs Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Morehead City. Joan was born in Charlotte on March 1, 1939 to the late James Blackwelder and Laura Blackwelder. Her husband of 53 years, Wistar Allen in 2014 and her brother Jimmy Blackwelder preceded Joan in death. She was a loving mother and grandmother who “lived for her family”. She was an avid cook and was greatly involved in the lives of her children. Joan was a member of Emerywood Baptist Church in High Point and was strong in her faith. She graduated from Central High School in Charlotte and attended High Point College. She met Wistar while working at High Point Bank and they married in 1961. Joanie’s hobbies included collecting antiques, interior design and spending time in Pine Knoll Shores. Joan is survived by her children, Scott Allen and wife, Laura of High Point, Laurie Ann Morris and husband, Mike of Atlantic Beach; grandchildren, Wistar Allen, Emily Allen and Abigail Southern. A private memorial service will be held.
