Mrs. Norma Rogers McMenamin

April 11, 1902 ~ May 23, 2012 (age 110) 110 Years Old
Mrs. Norma Rogers McMenamin, 110, resident of High Point, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Hospice Home at High Point.
Mrs. McMenamin was born on April 11, 1902 near Charlotte, NC to the late Joseph Alexander Rogers and Adelaide Rebecca Bissell.  She attended King’s Business College in Charlotte. In the 1920s, the family relocated to Greensboro and Norma worked at the O’Henry Hotel as a cashier, where she met David James “Mac” McMenamin of Horsham, PA. Norma moved to Horsham to take Catholic Instruction and David and Norma were married on June 5, 1930.
They built a family in Horsham and had three sons, David Rogers McMenamin, Joseph McMenamin, and John McMenamin.  In 1935, Mac’s career moved the family to Rio de Janiero, Brazil, where the family lived for over five years. While in Brazil, the family experienced the loss of their son David from Spinal Meningitis.  She later lived in New Orleans, where their son John was tragically killed in an accident.  After suffering this loss, Norma and Joseph moved back to Greensboro where she operated a laundry mat.
Norma and Joseph traveled across the country to San Francisco in Joseph’s yellow convertible and spent several days there until Joseph’s Navy career stationed him in Oahu, HI.  While in the Navy, Joseph passed away after his plane went down in the Pacific Ocean.
Norma joined Archdale Friends Meeting and was active in the Elizabeth Frye Sunday School Class for many years.  Despite all of the tragedy in her life, Norma triumphed and went on to live out the rest of her days in the High Point area. Since 2003, she had been a resident of the Stratford, where her sister Eunice also resides. She had a lifelong passion for needlework and growing flowers while she was able.
In addition to her parents and sons, Norma was preceded in death by her brothers, John W. Rogers, Joseph A. Rogers, Jr., Banks C. Rogers, Carl S. Rogers, E. Worth Rogers, & Dennis B. Rogers and by sister Ruth Rogers Doss and her husband John.

Surviving is her sister, Eunice Makasiar of High Point.
A graveside service will be held at 3 pm Tuesday, May 29th at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. David Mercadante officiating.
