Tribute

Orville Samuelson, 92, formerly of Jamestown, North Dakota, entered his eternal rest on August 31st, 2019 at High Point, North Carolina where he had lived the past several years. Due to his declining health he was in a nursing home near the residence of his wife, daughter and her family.

A private memorial service was held Tuesday, September 3rd. Cremation took place under the direction of the Cumby Family Funeral Service.

Orville was born on November 11th, 1926, in Cogswell, North Dakota, the son of Erling and Nora Samuelson. He was raised and educated in Forman where he graduated from high school. He served in the Korean conflict from 1950 to 1952. He married Margaret Bayley of Page, ND on July 6th, 1962. They made their home in Jamestown, North Dakota.

Orville worked for Equity Creameries in Aberdeen and Jamestown until 1957 when he went to Farmers Union Insurance where he worked as an agent until his retirement on January 31st, 1992. As a couple, Orville and Margaret enjoyed many years of square dancing. They also enjoyed traveling and the family took many road trips. During his lifetime, Orville traveled to 49 of the 50 American states. He always kept abreast of current affairs and enjoyed tracking the weather forecast. During his retirement years in Jamestown he kept busy with yard work and shoveling snow!

He is survived by his wife Margaret who now lives in Jamestown, North Carolina; his daughter Anita (Christopher) Behme and her family including a granddaughter Nicole and a grandson Benjamin all of whom live in Jamestown, North Carolina; a son and his family Kirk (Tomoe) Samuelson of Providence, Rhode Island; and a granddaughter Mizuki who is in college in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Erling and Nora, and his siblings Lucy (Rob) Vanderford, Gladys (Ron) Weber, and Roger (Bernadette) Samuelson.

Memorials in his name are suggested to a charity of the donors’ choice.
