Patricia (Pat) Elizabeth Waldrop Martin, 91, passed away peacefully with family by her side on November 17, 2023, in Greensboro, NC. Pat was born July 17, 1932, in Winston-Salem NC to the late Bascom Siler Waldrop and Rosa McLaurin Waldrop. She graduated from Greensboro High School (Grimsley) in 1950 where she met the love of her life, Paul G. Martin. Pat and Paul married in 1951 and together had four children.
Pat was known for her grace and gratitude and was loved by many for her kind and gentle heart. She was active in the many cities she resided in across NC and SC through her church and community organizations with her heart for serving and desire to make a difference. She enjoyed her bible study groups, Christian Women’s Club, choirs and greeting newcomers through the Welcome Wagon group. Pat spent countless hours sewing and doing needlepoint projects as well as making beautiful Chrismon ornaments the family will treasure for generations. She most recently enjoyed singing with the Harbor Belles and Pennybyrn Singers to entertain others.
Pat became Paul’s first mate on their sailing adventures and spent their retirement years in New Bern, NC, enjoying boating trips and kindred yachting spirits. They relocated to Pennybyrn Independent Living, High Point, NC, in 2015 to be closer to family in their final years.
She was preceded in death and now reunited with her life-long love and husband of 69 years, Paul G. Martin and a sister, Lydia F Waldrop. Pat is survived by her sons David L Martin (Connie), Neal G Martin (Phyllis), Jason D Martin (Tina) and daughter Janet M Hurd (Curt); her grandchildren Sarah Vanderburg (Jay), Bryan Martin (April), Robert Martin, Amanda Lemons (Jordan), Kathleen Martin, Daniel Martin, Matthew Martin, Rebekah Martin, Garrison Hurd, Mitchell Hurd, and Patrick Hurd, five great grandchildren, and her friend and sister Frances W Wolfe.
The family would like to thank the care and compassionate staff of Pennybyrn and Cone Hospital 6 East for their loving care of their Mother and Grandmother. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of choice, Pennybyrn, or Jamestown Presbyterian Church.
A celebration of life service will be Sunday, December 10, at 1:00 PM, Jamestown Presbyterian Church, 1804 Guilford College Road, Jamestown, NC, 27282, with Rev. Jay Smith officiating.
