It is with great sadness that the family of Peggy J. Andrews announces her passing on July 18, 2018, after a hard fought battle with cancer. Peggy was a lifelong resident of High Point/Greensboro area. She was born on March 10, 1933 in High Point, to the late Ernest A. Andrews and Della Fank Kirkman Andrews. She considered it a blessing to be born to such honorable parents. They shaped her character by the way they lived their lives.
Peggy graduated from High Point High School in 1951 and graduated from Guilford College with an Associates Degree in Accounting. This enabled her to pursue various careers in accounting. She was employed by Indian Head Hosiery, Highland Motors, Hatteras Yachts, Color Works and also self employed at Andrews and Associates.
Peggy's love of sports began at an early age. This included bowling, golf, softball and fishing. Peggy pitched for the Carolina Glass Rockets, an amateur softball league in High Point. In 1960 the team won the National Championship Tournament, where Peggy received the Most Valuable Player award. She was most proud of this accomplishment. She made numerous friends playing ball, many of whom are dear friends today. She also received numerous trophies in other sports she played. A true athlete! Her favorite teams were the Carolina Tarheels and the New York Yankees.
Preceding her in death is her oldest sister; Norris Andrews Rice and husband William A. Rice, Sr., a niece; Mitzi J. Rice, a great niece; Amy Brown and great nephew; Hunter A. Hinson. Those who will cherish her memory include an older sister Ellanette Andrews, a younger sister Irma Brower, nieces; Cheryl Cash (Arthur), Jeannie Hinson (Bryon), Gail Huie (Keith) and Vicki Brown (Jimmy), nephews; William A. Rice, Jr. (Sue) and Kenneth W. Lackey, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.
Peggy enjoyed spending time with her sisters as well as their children. She often said "she had the best of both worlds,Play with the nieces and nephews, while spoiling them and then send home to mama.” She actively participated in various sporting events for all of her family.
Other interest that brought much joy to her life were her "four legged friends"; Happy, Sugar and Kelly. She treated her pets like they were her children.
