Peter "Pete" Doran Lowrey

Mr. Peter Doran Lowrey, resident of Greensboro, died Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the age of 80, due to complications from surgery.

Mr. Lowrey was born October 20, 1941 in Boston, Massachusetts and was preceded in death by his parents, Francis P. and Alice D. Lowrey; a sister, Janice Lowrey Poch of Bethesda, Maryland; and a brother, Francis William Lowrey of Greensboro.

He is survived by his wife of 55 “happy” years, Audrey; two children, Susan Lowrey Richardson (Michael) of High Point and Brian Lowrey of Clemmons; three grandchildren he adored, Carly Richardson, Pearce Lowrey and Emerson Lowrey; sisters-in-law, Bolling Puller Lowrey and Luverne Buck; brother-in-law, Edward Ahlquist (Connie); six nieces and seven nephews.

Mr. Lowrey graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and was a thirty year resident of North Carolina.  He worked for three insurance companies beginning in 1966 and was also the co-founder and owner of Professional Insurance Consultants in Burlington.  He enjoyed golfing, bridge, and was an avid participant in the sport of motorcycling.  He served on the Board of Directors and as Vice President of the North Carolina Motorcycle Foundation and also was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association and the BMW Tarheel Travelers.  Mr. Lowrey taught numerous insurance courses at the Florida International University and various community colleges in North Carolina.  He also was a volunteer teaching assistant at Alamance Community College for several semesters.  He was known for his humor and optimism, and enjoyed being on either side of a pun.

Pete requested that there be no service.  A family interment and a celebration of life memorial will be held at a later date.
