JAMESTOWN- Quentin “Wimpy” Hodgin, 99, celebrated his “Home – Going” on Friday evening, July 31, 2020, at the Hospice Home at High Point, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on August 25, 1920 in Jamestown, a son of the late Joseph and Myrtle Allred Hodgin. He has been a resident of this area all his life, he attended Jamestown school and later served his country in the US Army Air Corps during World World II. In 1955, he established Hodgin Sprinkler Company (later Hodgin Inc. and Hodgin Sprinkler Inspection Service), and operated it until he was 90 years old. He was a longtime active member of Bales Memorial Wesleyan Church; where he was saved in the early 1970’s, served on the board, was a member of the Wesleyan Men, and participated with the seniors on the supper excursions. Wimpy loved deep sea fishing, going to the “Singing Echoes” Homecoming, and celebrations; especially his birthday, which over 100 guests attended every year since his 90th birthday. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends; having made a hole in one in 1968, at Summer Hills, and winning the High Point Classic in 1969. He also loved the Atlanta Braves and Duke basketball. His true love and passion was spending time with his family. Wimpy loved his Lord, his family and his friends, and will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his wife of 56 years; Mae Young Hodgin; his infant son, Junior; his brother, Kermit Hodgin; his sister, Juanita Carlton and a bonus daughter, Wanda Dills.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his daughters, Carolyn Howard and her husband, Randy; Barbara Smith and her husband, Keith; his grandchildren; Felicia Sebastian and her husband, Eddie; Daniel Howard and his wife, Tina; Abby Owenby and her husband, Brent; Adrienne Epperson and her husband, Matthew; his great grandchildren: Holly Sebastian, Ayden Fiery, Andrew Owenby, Gabe Epperson, Quentin “Quen” Epperson, Mattie Ann Epperson and Raelynn Epperson. Also surviving are his bonus daughter, Paulette Brewer and her husband, Don; his bonus son in-law, Joe Dills; his bonus grandchildren, Cheryl Martin and her husband, David; Donald Brewer and his wife, Jennifer; Branson Dills and his wife, Cindy; Wendy Dills; Jonathan Dills and his wife Danielle; 13 bonus great-grandchildren and 2 bonus great-great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Wimpy’s life will be held on Wednesday afternoon, August 5, at 2 o’clock, at Bales Memorial Wesleyan Church. The committal service will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. His family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, August 4, from 6 until 8 o’clock, at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.
