Mrs. Rebecca Smith Oakley Owens, 72, resident of Colfax, died May 27, 2021 at Hospice Home in High Point.
She was born October 18, 1948 in Guilford County, a daughter to the late James and Dot Wall Oakley. As a resident of this area all her life, she was a graduate of Trinity High School and a member of First Wesleyan Church, where she worked as secretary for the late Dr. Clyde Parker. She also owned her own cleaning service, Classy Clean, in High Point. Rebecca loved the outdoors and enjoyed working in her flower garden. Especially, she loved visiting her “Happy Place” (the beach) with family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Oakley (wife Barbara surviving).
On September 9, 1967, she married Douglas Owens who survives of the residence. Also surviving are two daughters, Christie Heckman (Karl) of Hoover, AL and Angela Carpenter (Eric) of High Point; a sister, Dru Coltrain (Larry) of Colfax; a brother, Eddie Oakley (Jane) of Jamestown; six grandchildren, Karlie and Kirsten Heckman, Alexis and Owen Finley, and Abigail and Kate Carpenter.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 30, in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Rev. John Vernon officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice Home at High Point, 1803 Westchester Dr. High Point, NC, 27262.
