Rev. Barney Pierce

Rev. Warren “Barney” Allen Pierce, 97, resident of Trinity, died January 8, 2019 at his home.

Barney was born January 12, 1921 in Randolph County, a son to Harvey and Tressie Robbins Pierce.  He graduated from God’s Bible School in Cincinnati, OH, and later began a career in ministry which spanned 54 years as pastor of Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting in Trinity and later Thomasville Friends Meeting, which he also founded.  For 40 of those years, he also ministered through his Christian radio program.  In 1948, he married the former Frances Bean who preceded him in death in 2005.  He was also preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters.

Surviving are two daughters, Gaye Willard and husband Eddie of Trinity and Janice Spainhour of Trinity; two sisters, Peggy Pugh and husband Arnold of Trinity and Nora Lee Myers and husband Paul of Altamonte Springs, FL; and six grandchildren, Kimberly Radford of Durham, Jason Radford and wife Ashely of Durham, Kelly Parker and husband David of Durham, Jonathan Spainhour of Vancouver British Columbia, Christi Anna Coats and husband Michael of Fort Hood, TX and Jeremy Spainhour and wife Keldy of Silverdale, WA.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, at Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting with Pastor Dave Mercadante officiating.  Interment will follow in the meeting cemetery.  Following the interment, friends are invited to a time of songs, stories and sentiments and a “carry in meal” at the meeting fellowship hall.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting c/o Missions, at 3673 Hoover Hill Rd. Trinity, NC, 27370. 

From the time of his calling to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ through his long journey with dementia, he used every talent, gift, and resource to accomplish his mission which was that he might “...become all things to all men that he might by all means save some.”  1 Cor 9:22
