Reverend Goodson is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Frankie Wilson Goodson. They were married in 1950 and had 70 years together. Two children, Rhonda, and Chris live in High Point. David Bruce, the eldest, is deceased. Reverend Goodson is also survived by five grandchildren, Jason Glass, of Roanoke, VA., Travis Glass, of Hickory NC, Misty Riggins and a great grandchild, Bear Riggins, of Galax, VA, and Crystal Goodson, and Zachary Goodson of High Point.

Reverend Goodson became a Christian when he was 14 years of age. He attended two different churches for four years. At the age of 18, he became a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Gastonia, North Carolina. During his time there he served in various positions: secretary and treasurer, deacon, etc.

At the age of 28, God called him to preach the gospel. He was credentialed by the Cornerstone Conference (Western North Carolina Conference) in 1959. That year he was assigned to pastor the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Shelby, N. C. Other churches he pastored were Concord, Yadkinville, and Flat Rock, in Mt. Airy, South Henderson, and First Pentecostal Holiness High Point. During his pastoral ministry, he was elected to serve on the Cornerstone Conference Board. While serving in this capacity, he served 9 years as conference missions director. Upon the death of the conference superintendent, Reverend Goodson, who was at the time, serving as assistant superintendent became the superintendent. Three- and one-half years later, at the General Conference in Richmond, Virginia, he was elected to serve as the General Secretary and Treasurer of the denomination. This resulted in a move to Oklahoma City where the denominational headquarters is located. His portfolio consisted of oversight of the colleges and benevolence institutions, retirement and planned giving programs.

After eight years. Reverend Goodson was selected to serve as U. S. Field Director for World Missions. When the term was finished, he was reelected to serve another four-year term as General Secretary and Treasurer with the same portfolio as before.

During his time of service, Reverend Goodson was awarded two honorary doctorates, one from Pacific Coast Bible College and one from Southwestern Christian University. After retirement, in 2008, Southwestern Christian University, located in Bethany, Oklahoma., presented him a Lifetime Service Award.

In 2001, Reverend Goodson retired from general work and moved back to High Point. In the retirement years, he had been serving as the Director of Archives for the Cornerstone Conference headquartered at Brown Summit, near Greensboro.
