Mrs. Rhoda Hilke Lambeth, 93, of High Point, peacefully passed away Thursday, January 16, 2020 in Hospice Care at Summerstone Health and Rehabilitation Center in Kernersville.
Rhoda was born on February 24, 1926, in Rollingstone, Minnesota. She was the youngest of four children of the late Otto and Amanda Tews Hilke. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John C. Lambeth; two sisters, Margaret Kiese and Ruth Blanchard; and brother, Orval Hilke. Rhoda graduated from Winona State University and from the Kahler School of Nursing Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN in 1947. After graduating nursing school, she worked at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa and later joined the United State Navy serving as Ensign in the Nurse Corps for 2+ years. After moving to High Point, Rhoda worked a number of years in the Emergency Department at High Point Regional Hospital. The bulk of her 40+ year nursing career was spent as head nurse for Dr. Eugene & Dr. Eldora Terrell. She was an active member and enthusiastic volunteer at her church, Emmanuel Lutheran in High Point.
Rhoda is survived by two sons, Glenn John Lambeth (Kathy), and Scott Allen Lambeth (Frances); grandchildren, Brooke Lambeth Cable (Sam), Bryan Scott Lambeth (Gwen), and Ashley Lambeth Puckett (Preston); step-grandchildren, David Whitlow and Christa Stephens; great grandchildren, Claire Cable, Chloe Cable, Parker Puckett and Sarah Lambeth; five step-great grandchildren; and a step-great-great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 24th, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in High Point, officiated by Reverend Linda Faltin. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor.
