Mr. Richard Farrell Rankin, 76, resident of Lexington, died April 5, 2021 at High Point Medical Center.
He was born June 1, 1944 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, a son to the late Glenn D. and Lucy Mae Gover Rankin. Richard was a retired U.S. Navy veteran having served 22 years. During that time he served three combat tours in Vietnam, was decorated, battlefield promoted, and wounded twice. He served on eight vessels, mostly in the Pacific, and also at several naval facilities including, Futenma, Okinawa, Jacksonville, New Orleans, and Soyosuka. He graduated from the Little Creek, VA, Amphibious School (Seals School/SERE) and also the Harry Lundeberg School of Seamanship at Piney Point, MD as an ABLE SEAMAN.
Surviving is his wife, Patsy Powers Rankin and a daughter, Ginger Lynn Rankin Waller. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Moonyen Maria Rankin; a sister, Gerry Lynn Rankin; and his parents.
