Tribute

Mr. Robert “Bob” Camm Lemert, Jr., 82, resident of the Meadowlands, passed away October 24, 2022 at High Point Medical Center.  Mr. Lemert was born September 23, 1940, in Kansas City, Missouri, a son to Robert Lemert, Sr. and Virginia Williams Lemert. He was raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He was an honor student and played varsity football at Shades Valley High School where he graduated in 1958.

He attended his freshman year of college at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, where he played football and became a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, Beta Chapter.  He transferred to the Georgia Institute of Technology where he graduated with highest honors, ranking number one in the Industrial Engineering school in 1963.  While at Georgia Tech, he worked as a co-op student in the field of Industrial Engineering for a major steel company and served as Air Force ROTC Commander.  He loved his time at Georgia Tech and remained a Yellow Jacket fan his entire life. After graduating from Georgia Tech, he deferred his Air Force service to attend Emory University School of Law where he graduated in the top 10% of his class with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1966. His law school scholastic honors included the Bryan Society and Fuller E. Callaway Foundation Scholarship. While in law school, Bob worked in the area of Human Resources developing orientation programs, employee handbooks and wage administration programs.

After graduating, he entered active duty as a Judge Advocate General in Laredo, Texas with the rank of Captain for four years.  After his service, Bob entered private practice law in Atlanta, Georgia at Smith Curry specializing in labor and employment law.  He later moved to Greenville, South Carolina and joined J.P. Stevens as Assistant Counsel for Labor Relations and Corporate Employee Relations Director, where he was instrumental in the development of their training programs.

On January 24, 1987, he married the former Anne Steede. They moved to Atlanta, Georgia where Bob was partner at the law firm, Constangy, Brooks, and Smith, L.L.C.  He was a member of the Georgia Bar, and the American Bar Association, labor and employment law sections.  Bob worked hard and no matter what the task, he was a perfectionist.  In 1996, he earned a Telly Award which represents the very best work created within video and television for all screens. He coached little league football, enjoyed painting, was an avid dog lover, attended and cheered his Yellow Jackets at football games, enjoyed landscaping and building ponds for his koi fish, building model boats and vacationing at his favorite place, Hilton Head Island.  He was an elder with his Westminster Church in Stone Mountain, and most recently was a member of First Presbyterian Church in High Point, North Carolina.

Mr. Lemert’s most precious title was “Pop” by his grandchildren. After retiring, he moved to Winston Salem, North Carolina, and was able to enjoy more time visiting with them and watching them in their different sports while keeping up with their school activities and achievements. He was humorous, honest, and a hard worker in all that he did and will be greatly missed.

Bob is survived by his wife, Anne of the residence, two sons, Lee Lemert (Stephanie) of Lewisville and Dr. Robert Lemert (Ginger) of Celebration, Florida; daughter, Christie Goodman (Clarke) of Summerfield; grandchildren, Phebe Lemert, Olivia Lemert, Colton Lemert, Clay Owens, Mason Owens, Caroline Goodman, McKenna Lemert and Chrissa Patterson; three brothers-in-law, John Mills of Springfield, Virginia, Robert Steede (Janice) of Thomasville, John Steede (June) of High Point and many beloved nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Mills.
