Mr. Roby Junior Shives, 84, resident of High Point, died February 10, 2020 at Hospice Home at High Point.
Mr. Shives was born June 12, 1935 in Guilford County, a son of the late Walter R. and Vialee Whitfield Shives. As a resident of this area all his life, he retired from Harris Teeter and was a member of Abbott’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church. On May 31, 1957 he married the former Barbara Johnson who preceded him in death on August 25, 2010. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy “Timmy” Shives; sister, Shirley Millikan; and grandson, Roby Tussey.
Surviving are daughters, Donna Shives of Thomasville, Sherri Tallant of High Point, and Kim Whitaker of Winston-Salem; a son, Johnny Shives and wife Tracy of Kernersville; a brother, Darrell Shives of High Point; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Abbott’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Hollar officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Dr. High Point, N.C. 27262. Special thanks is extended to the doctors, nurses and staff at hospice for their loving care given to both Roby, and his family.
