ARCHDALE – Roy Odell Sams, 90, died Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at High Point Medical Center.
He was born July 1, 1929, in Stokes County and was the son of the late James Thomas and Sarah Chandler Sams. He was retired owner and operator of Home & Energy Improvement Company. Roy was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, four sisters and two great-grandchildren.
Roy is survived by his wife, Martha “Mattie Sue” Key Sams, whom he married on December 5, 1969; children, Ronnie Sams (Linda) of Asheboro and Donna Robertson (Rick Lawrence) of High Point; four grandchildren, Jason Sams (Constance) of Sophia, Jeremy Sams (Crystal), Christina Carter (Nick), and Hayley Varner (Dustin), all of Archdale; five great-grandchildren, Aaron, Ashleigh, Evalia, Ellie and Oliver; a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service celebrating Roy’s life will be held 11:00 am Monday, September 23, 2019, at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Tripp and Rev. Keith Bischer officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9:45 to 10:45 am Monday at the church prior to the service.
