HIGH POINT – Roy Eugene Scarboro, 97, died Tuesday, November 13, 2018.
He was born February 13, 1921, in Thomasville and was the son of the late Charlie Armstrong and Della Jane Garner Scarboro. He was a graduate of High Point Central High School and served two years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for High Point Weaving and Burlington Industries as a supervisor. He then became a general contractor of his own construction business, High Point Home Improvement and High Point Cabinet Shop. Roy was a member and trustee of The Church of Jesus on Old Mendenhall Road in Archdale. He loved to play golf and loved fishing, along with his love for his church, his family and his friends.
Roy vacationed in Alaska and he and his wife toured the Holy Lands, including Rome, Italy, Egypt, Syria and Petra. He loved golfing and fishing, but he always carried his "goody bag" mind you. He never went on any kind of trip, fishing, golfing or vacation, but what he had apples, grapes, nuts, etc. along with him - that was just part of his "luggage" that he said you don't leave home without. He loved to work, loved to eat and loved to see others eat. His philosophy was, "You can get through any part of the day if you had a full stomach!" He loved his family and loved to get together on family holidays; the more the merrier, he always said. If you were giving him a party, he loved knowing about it ahead of time; surprises were okay but knowing was part of the enjoyment. He would tell everyone when his party was and for them to come on and celebrate it with him. He had a generous heart and was always buying in excess, food, fruits, onion and so forth, having in mind to give them out to those around him. Even while at Brookdale Assisted Living, he went to Mt. Airy to buy bushels of apples and peaches in their season in order to pass out to the fruit to all the staff and residents. He really had a big heart!!
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Reatha Mae Elkes Scarboro; a son, James Charles "J.C." Scarboro; a sister, Lola Scarboro; and two brothers, Hoyt Scarboro and Bill Scarboro.
He is survived by two daughters, Lajuana Spiers and husband, Doug, of Asheboro and Sharon Stocks and husband, Mike; three sons, Roy Elwood Scarboro and wife, Frances, William “Bill” Scarboro and wife, Gayle, and Robert Wayne Scarboro and wife, Vicki; a daughter-in-law, Judy Scarboro; a sister, Christine Haude all of Archdale; seventeen grandchildren, Roy "Woody," Renee, Jonathon, Sheila, Christine, William "Billy," Daron, Stephen, Mark, Caroline, Amy, Doug, Jr., Amelia, Crystal, Lori, Elizabeth, and Robert; thirty-six great-grandchildren, Coy, Connor, Chase, Hannah, Mallory, Jared, Natalie, Rachel, Ashley, Robert "Jake," Aaron, Joshua, Leah, Bethany, Landon, Victoria, Macy, Jacob, Logan, Caleb, Ava, Ella, Hunter, BK, Hayley, Andrew, Ethan, Evan, Ashton, Caden, Kylie, Chloe, Madison, Dakota, Lillie, Lucas; and seven great-great-grandchildren, Carter, Savannah, noah, Mason, Jesselyn, Lyla, and Grayson.
