Mrs. Ruth Gordon Curlee, resident of High Point, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 12, at her home after declining health for several months. She was under Hospice care and surrounded by her family and precious “grand-dog” Allie.
Mrs. Curlee was born on July 28, 1927 in Pinnacle, NC, daughter of the late Wesley Marshall Gordon and Pearl Patterson Gordon. She was a loving caregiver all her life, employed by High Point Hospital for many years as a floor nurse, then as Operating Room Supervisor, retiring from Johnson Neurological Clinic.
Mrs. Curlee had a very generous heart and a passion for helping the needy. She was an accomplished baker, known for her bread and cakes. Family and friends seldom left her home without a loaf of bread or other goodies. Mrs. Curlee volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, and multiple church ministries. Most importantly, she loved and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered as an exceptional, loving mother by her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, numerous friends and neighbors.
Mrs. Curlee was a member of Oakview United Methodist Church for most of her life. She was currently a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church at the time of her passing. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women and truly loved the Lord.
Mrs. Curlee is survived by her daughters, Sharon Lynette Curlee of the home; Pamela C. Ritter Wiggs (Darell) of Keystone Heights, FL; Sandra C. Harrison (Andy) of Thomasville, NC; and Billie C. Stafford (Derek) of Kernersville, NC; sister Lucille Kenerley of High Point; six grandchildren, Christopher Lewis, Chad Leach, Nicholas Ritter, Alex Smith, Hannah Stafford, Matthew Stafford and five great grandchildren.
Mrs. Curlee is preceded in death by the father of her children Billy Sterling Curlee; brother Luther D. Gordon; sisters, Kathleen Shelton and Hazel Linville. She will be cherished as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Funeral services will be held at Lebanon United Methodist Church on Friday, March 15 at 1:00 PM. Rev. Timothy James will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 12:45 PM at the church.
