Ruth (Spencer) Kennedy

Mrs. Ruth Spencer Kennedy, 94, resident of High Point, died April 9, 2024 at Hospice Home in High Point.

She was born September 24, 1929 in Davidson County, a daughter to Reece J. and Zelma Mae Stewart Culler.  As a resident of this area all her life, she worked at Adams-Millis Hosiery, Influential Hosiery, Red Dot Supermarket and Moore’s Supermarket, before eventually opening her own business, Ruth’s Cleaning Service.  She also was active in her community, serving as a girl scout leader, volunteering with High Point Medical Center, and held membership with the Archdale-Trinity Women’s Club.  Ruth was also the longest tenured member of Hayworth Wesleyan Church.  In 2008, she married Robie Kennedy who preceded her in death in 2015. Her sister, Dorothy Grant, also preceded her in death, as well as her first husband, Harold (1949-1977) who passed in 1984. 

Surviving is her daughter, Deborah Gilbert (Al) of Archdale; two sons, Harold Craig Spencer (Kathy) of Trinity and Ricky Spencer (Sharon) of Hendersonville, TN; six grandchildren, Kristen Blevins, Scott Clark, Brittany Murray (Megan), Ashley Reece (Mike), Brandon Gilbert and Travis Gilbert (Amanda); twelve great grandchildren, Ethan, Alex, Emma, Norah, Noah, Moses, Abraham, Judah, Miriam, Waverly, Parker and Raelynn; a niece, Marla Nelson; and a nephew, Stewart Grant.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, at Hayworth Wesleyan Church with Rev. Brian Matherlee, Rev. Eddie McClure, Rev. David Emery and Rev. Ricky Spencer officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Dr. High Point, NC 27262 or to Hayworth Wesleyan Church, 1696 Westchester Dr. High Point, NC 27262.  Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point is assisting the family.
