Samuel Worth "Tom" Hill

ARCHDALE-Samuel Worth “Tom” Hill, 85, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.

He was born on October 1, 1934, in Randolph County, son of the late John and Clara Fields Hill.  A resident of this area all his life, he served in the US Army and was a retired tobacco farmer.  Tom enjoyed working on his farm, tending to his animals, and spending time with his family; especially his children and grandchildren.  He will be remembered as an intelligent, wise and caring man, who had a good sense of humor.  Tom had a special way of reducing the complex questions of life to simple, understandable terms.   He taught the lessons of living a good life by example, not by lecturing.  Not one to preach his beliefs, he lived them, and he lived them well.  Everyone that has met Tom has a story about his honesty, his candor, his delightful sense of humor, or his calm demeanor in circumstances that would make others anything but calm.   He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather.  He will be dearly missed.  In addition to his parents, those close to him who preceded him in death include his brothers, Harrison Hill, John Hill, Jr., and Bill Hill; his sister, Judy Peele; his step-sister, Susan Gray and his step-brother, Roger Lackey.

He is survived by his devoted wife of more than 63 years, Sandra Gray Hill; his sons, Sammy Hill; Randy Hill, and his husband, Kirk Fuoss; his sisters, Darlene Spaugh, Doris Rogers and her husband, Rodney; Mary Jackson; Nellie Auman and her husband, Robert; his step sisters, Kay Winfrey and her husband, Bob; Faye Trotter and her husband, Gary; his step brother, David Lackey; his grandchildren, Becky Hill LeCroix and her husband, Chad; Robby Hill and his wife, Heather and his great granddaughters, Rory and Emma.

A service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held Saturday morning, May 23, at 11 o’clock, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Tom’s honor may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
