THOMASVILLE-Shirley Jean Byerly Loftin, 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 19, 2019.
She was born March 28, 1941 in Davidson County, to the late Howard and Anno Yates Byerly. A resident of this area all of her life, she retired form A&L Label and had been a member of Burton Street Missionary Methodist Church, since 1960. Shirley enjoyed shopping, her flowers, and sitting on her front porch rocking in her rocking chair. She also enjoyed traveling; especially to Emerald Isle or to Dollywood in Tennessee; and was an avid Dolly Parton fan. Her true love and passion was spending time with her family; whether she was watching her son, Steve, race go Karts, or late model stock cars or spending time with her grandchildren, Whitney and Josh, or her great grandchildren, Carson and Kenley. Shirley loved Jesus with all her heart, she loved her family, church family and her many friends unconditionally.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years; Donald Ray Loftin; her son, Steve Loftin and his wife Tara; her sister, Carolyn Bumgarner; her granddaughter, Whitney Freeman and her husband, Nick; her grandson, Josh Loftin, and her great grandchildren, Carson and Kenley, and her great granddaughter due in November.
A service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held on Wednesday morning, July 24, at 11 o’clock at Burton Street Missionary Methodist Church, with Reverend Hillis Burton, Reverend Tim Burton, Reverend Jeff Burton and Reverend Bryan Sink officiating. The committal service will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, July 23, from 6 until 8, at the church, and other times will be at the residence.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Davidson County, Spring Arbor Memory Cottage and Carolina Senior Care, for their love and care of Shirley, while she was a patient there.
