Shirley Geneva Ashby Winner (Ginny) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, in Bolivia, NC.
Born October 12, 1930, in High Point, Ginny was the daughter of the late Raymond & Elva Fulk. She married Gurney Grayson “Buck” Ashby June 3, 1950, and to this union was born six children, Sherry, Larry, Ray, Barry, Sonya & Robin. She worked as a nurse at the Naval Hospital in Long Beach, CA, where she retired and returned to her home of North Carolina. She enjoyed dancing & country music. Most of all, she adored her children, grandchildren, sisters and great grandchildren, and cherished spending time with them all. She brought sunshine wherever she was and will be missed dearly by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sons, Larry Ashby, James “Ray” Ashby, and Barry Ashby, and great granddaughter, Anistyn Babcock-Sweeney.
Surviving are daughters Sherry and husband, Don Babcock, Sonya and husband, Paul Rice, and Robin Ashby and fiancé, Howie Leviner; daughters-in-law, Delores “Zip” Ashby and Karen Masterson; sisters Joyce Gruenberg and husband, Ed, Leota Tuten and husband, Derwin; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, five nieces, and one nephew.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 15th, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, officiated by Ginny’s brother-in-law, Mr. Derwin Tuten. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
