Stanton Hockett

Mr. Elwood Stanton Hockett, 89, resident of Randleman, died May 28, 2022 at Hospice Home of Randolph County.

Mr. Hockett was born September 19, 1932 in Randolph County, a son to Herschel N. and Willie Blanche Stanton Hockett.  Stanton began dairy farming in 1946 and later started Green Valley Farms as owner and operator.  He loved taking care of his farm, especially when it necessitated mowing, his favorite thing to do.  Stanton was a member of Centre Friends Meeting and was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Korea.  In 1956 he married the former Janice Farlow, who preceded him in death on June 23, 2016.  He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Dameron and Hallie Gibbs; and a brother, Herschel Needham Hockett, Jr.

Surviving are two sons, Herschel Eugene Hockett (Anne) of Randleman and Keith Stanton Hockett (Betsy) of Randleman; six grandchildren, Phillip Hockett (Jennifer), Ella Cribbs (Adam), Anna Sanner (Truman), Meredith Hardister (Andrew), Benjamin Hockett and Andrew Hockett (Keisha); and eleven great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 30, at Centre Friends Meeting Cemetery with Pastor Tommy Sluder officiating.
