ARCHDALE – Terry Michael “Mike” Sexton, 63, died Friday, May 15, 2020, at his residence.
He was born January 25, 1957 in High Point and was the son of Ruth Mitchell Batten and the late Jerry Eugene Sexton. He was a 1975 graduate of Andrews High School where played football, wrestled and participated in track and field. Mike was graduate of UNC-G and a retired math teacher and coach having served at Ledford High School, Thomasville High School and Dudley High School in Greensboro. He loved hunting, fishing, boating and camping at the beach, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was an avid sports fan, especially football, and never missed his sons’ sporting events. He was also a gifted handyman who had a keen ability to fix anything.
Mike is survived by his wife, Deborah “Debbie” Roberts Sexton whom he married on September 1, 1985; two sons, Chris Sexton and Austin Sexton, both of Archdale; his mother and step-father, Ruth M. and Doyle Batten of High Point; sister, Cindy Beasley and husband, Tim, of Sophia; four sisters-in-law, Cathy Zelenko of Conway, SC, Pam Fowler and husband, Robert, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Nancy Locklair of Columbus, GA, and Patti Roberts of Florence, SC; and six nieces and nephews, Betsy Altman and husband, Chris, Ben Beasley and wife, Amber, Shauna Stevens, Ben Locklair and wife, Annie, Hunter Locklair and wife, Alexis, and Lauren Loughman and husband, Tom.
A private memorial service celebrating Mike’s life will be held in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday at the residence.
