Mr. Thomas Boyd Chapman, 90, of High Point, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at his home. Boyd was born September 11, 1928 in High Point to the late Thomas William and Silla Priddy Chapman. He was a graduate of High Point Central High School where he was the leading placekicker in the Western North Carolina Conference in 1947. He was given the nickname “True Toe” for his talents in placekicking. He was a US Navy Veteran serving on the USS FOSS during the Korean War. Boyd was a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service in High Point for 34 years and made many friends on his postal routes. Boyd was a leader in the YMCA Y’s Men’s Club and Boy Scout Troop 1 for many years. He was awarded scouting’s Silver Beaver Award for leadership. Boyd loved the Lord and was a member of First United Methodist Church in High Point. He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert (Alease), Bud (Nell), Chester (Louise) and sister Sudie Peele (Clarence). Surviving are his bride of 70 years Billie McKinney Chapman, brother Dallas E Chapman, sister Elizabeth C Peace (Joe) of Birmingham, AL, sons Mark (Deborah) of Cary, NC and Tom (Tara) of Evergreen, CO. Boyd loved and adored his grandchildren, Brian Chapman (Ainsley) of Dallas, TX, Scott Chapman of San Francisco, CA, Haleigh Chapman of Evergreen, CO, and Jordan Chapman of Scottsdale, AZ and great granddaughter Ellie Chapman. Funeral service will be held in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point on Wednesday, July 3rd at 11:00 am with Pastor Debra Swing officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. Interment will be at Floral Garden Park of High Point Friday, July 5th at 10:00 a.m. The family is grateful to the Lord for bringing into their lives many caregivers who have helped care for Boyd and Billie over the past couple of years, especially Doris, Becky, Lynette, and Dr. Kurt Daniel.
