Thomas "Tom" Calvin Stout

May 22, 1939 ~ June 8, 2018 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Tribute

HIGH POINT – On June 8, 2018, Tom Stout, age 79, went to be with the Lord.  He celebrated his life well!

He graduated from NCSU with a degree in Furniture Manufacturing and Management Engineering.  He joined the family business and served as CEO of Carson’s, Inc.  He was adored by his employees and he thought of them as his extended family.  He loved the furniture manufacturing industry, but his true love was his family and friends.  He married his high school sweetheart and lived a life filled with laughter and adventure.  His friendships were deep and long lasting.  The Supper Club families were a special part of his life; once a friend, a friend for life.  He was a wonderful husband and father.  He loved his children and their spouses deeply.  One of his greatest joys was being a grandfather.  He loved cheering them on in all areas of their lives, and worked hard to create long-lasting memories with each grandchild.

He loved to serve our community and he was honored to serve in many capacities over the years with The United Way, Youth Unlimited, Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Wachovia Board of Directors, Blenenstock Library, Housing Authority, Rotary Club, and the American Furniture Manufacturers Board of Directors.  He dearly loved driving patients to chemotherapy treatments and this became his passion over the past few years.  Although he served publically in many ways, he truly loved to serve individuals with acts of generosity and service that were known only to the Lord.  His hobbies were hunting, fishing, reading and traveling.  His favorite trip was to the Holy Land.  He loved participating in Bible studies at the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove, BSF, the Walk to Emmaeus with his church and was touched deeply by each of these.  His faith was the foundation for the life he led.

In his later years, he endured many health issues, but he faced these challenges with conviction and dignity, never losing his sense of humor, belly laugh, or love for life.  His enjoyment for story telling only grew grander with his health issues.  He was blessed to have wonderful doctors and nurses to his very last breath on earth and into his first breath in Heaven.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Jupy Stout; his brother, Darrell Stout and his wife, Mary Jo; his children, Lisa Apple and her husband, Derick, Karen Hoover and her husband, Chris, Thom Stout, Jr. and his wife, Karen; seven grandchildren, Alexandra Apple, Carson Apple, Drake Hoover, Mackenzie Hoover, Kelsi Smith, Collin Stout, and Carly Stout; and his great-granddaughter, Adelyn Stout.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Asbury Room of the church.
