On Saturday, February 4, 2023, Gertrude “Trudi” Lauer, loving mother and devoted friend, passed away at the age of 86.
Trudi was born on November 30, 1936 in Berlin, Germany to Heinrich and Karola Klein. She attended college at The American University in Paris, France and moved to the United States after graduating. She became a US citizen in 1992. She was employed as a Systems Analyst at Myrtle Desk for 30+ years before retiring from Navis TubeTex in 2011 at the age of 75. She also taught German classes at GTCC part-time and was an Accredited Interpreter. She raised two sons, Michael and Thomas.
Trudi loved life and lived it to the fullest. She had a way of making everyone feel loved and she never met a stranger. She had a carefree, positive attitude that just made you want to be around her. She loved the beach and being outside. She enjoyed gardening and could keep a poinsettia alive until July. She appreciated a strong gin and tonic, a good red wine with dinner, and loved hosting parties, as long as everyone left by 9. Despite growing up in Nazi Germany during WWII and losing her oldest son almost 10 years ago, she still maintained enthusiasm, cheerfulness and a zest for life. She lit up the room and fun was always on the agenda.
Trudi is preceded in death by her eldest son, Michael. She is survived by her son Thomas and his wife Jill, daughter-in-law Melinda Lauer and two grandsons, Thomas and Matthew Lauer and dear friend and companion, Tommie Lauer. She will be greatly missed by her family and a multitude of friends.
A celebration of Trudi’s life will be held at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church located at 303 Eastchester Drive, in High Point on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow at Colonial Country Club located at 7047 Colonial Club Drive in Thomasville, NC.
Prost Prost Kamerad! Party’s over, said the girl. We love you Mama.
