Tribute

Vance Edward Patterson
High Point
Vance Edward Patterson, life-long resident of High Point, died peacefully Sunday, July 25, 2021 at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Vicki and Eddie Hilton in Thomasville.

Vance was preceded in death by his parents: Dorothy Ingram Patterson and Daniel Edward Patterson; brothers: Michael and Larry Patterson of High Point, and Devon Patterson of Shallotte, NC. He is survived by his sister, Vicki Hilton (husband Eddie); and youngest brother, Don Patterson (wife Pat) of Wallburg, NC; and nieces and nephews, Molli Day, Chris Patterson, Barri Payne, Martha Shore, Michelle Ryals, Tim Patterson, Danny Patterson, Melissa Mabe, Karin Bond, and Michael Watson. She was predeceased by two nephews, Craig Patterson and Neal Patterson.

Vance was a veteran of the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, during his 2 year tenure in the 1960’s.

He loved to fish and always enjoyed going to the coast with his family. He never caught any trophy-winning fish, but one year at the Outer Banks he hooked a large pelican. He was so upset for the welfare of the bird, he grabbed a towel to throw over him, waded out, and unhooked him. He could never stand to see an animal suffer. (The pelican flew away in fine shape.)

He loved his three companions over the past 20 years: General Patton, his Jack Russell terrier; Ruby, his Chihuahua; and Buster, his “well, we’re not sure”.

Family and friends will celebrate Vance’s life on Saturday, July 31st, 2021 at Laurel Oak Christian Church at 2:00 PM with Pastor Allen Brown officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00 PM – 1:45 PM.

Vance loved his church, and rarely missed a Sunday morning service until his sickness. His family wishes to thank Pastor Allen, and all the members for their prayers, the many cards and phone calls over the past months.

Many thanks also to Hospice of the Piedmont for their kind care and friendly visits.

Memorials can be made to Laurel Oak Christian Church, 1001 Old Plank Road, High Point, NC 27265 or Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
