Velma Marie Smith Auman, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Marie was born May 27, 1932 in Asheboro to the late Roy Smith and Lucille Allred Smith. In addition to her parents Marie was preceded in by her husband of 21 years, Joseph Auman, a brother; Darrell Smith and a sister, Patsy Henley.
Marie was known as a hard worker and proved it until she was 75 years old. She held various jobs in the furniture industry and restaurant businesses. Her and her husband, Joseph operated a successful farm for many years in Trinity. When she was not “working” she liked to sew, tend to gardening, traveling to broaden her horizons and cooking great meals for family and friends. Marie lived by her instilled faith learned growing up in the Baptist church.
Those who will cherish her memories are her two sons; Alan Auman of Trinity, Stephen Auman of Thomasville, two brothers; Leslie “Buster” Smith and wife, Rachel of Asheboro, Gary Smith of Asheboro, two sisters; Joyce Smith of Asheboro, Cheryl Hardy and husband, Kenneth of Branchville, SC, brother-in-law; Colon Henly of Farmer, a great-granddaughter; Ashley Leigh Anderson and numerous nieces and nephews.
To honor Marie’s life the family will receive friends 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 206 Trindale Road in Archdale. A Graveside service will follow at Guilford Memorial Park at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Jimmy Honeycutt officiating.
