GREENSBORO – Vernell Collins Brown Kennedy, 81, died Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at her residence.
She was born August 25, 1938, in Guilford County and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Verta Nunn Collins. She worked with Indian Head Hosiery, Rice Hosiery and retired from Cedar Creek Hosiery. Vernell enjoyed going to yard sales, gardening, working jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles, and she was an avid collector of angels.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Carlton Kennedy; sisters, Delphia Leonard, Voys Idol and Inez Causey; and brothers, Bill Collins, Needham Collins and Raymond Collins.
She is survived by daughter, Debra K. Pullum (Rodney); sons, William I. Brown (Karen), Terry A. Brown (Cindy) and Jimmy D. Brown (Melanie); seven grandchildren, Angela McCoy (Bobby), Bucky Pullum (Rose Anne), Allen Brown (Christie), Shayla Spainhour (Josh), Erika Brown (David), Logan Brown, and Kirsten Brown; seven great-grandchildren, Cody Leonard, Jeremy Leonard, Dixie Hilyer, Skye Brown, Aiden Spainhour, Sophia Pullum and Bryce Spainhour; great-great-grandchild, Grace Bergevin; sister, Angela Brown; brother, Loman Collins; and her beloved Yorkshire terrier, Abby.
Funeral service celebrating Vernell’s life will be held 2:00 PM Monday, December 16, 2019, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Rev. Rick Shoemaker officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery in Trinity.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, December 15, 2019, at the funeral home.
