Tribute

ARCHDALE - Vicki Barnes Fallenstein, 72, died on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at her home in Archdale following a period of declining health for several years.

She was born on September 16, 1946 in Charleston, SC and was the daughter of the late Carl R. and Mary Louise Gardner Barnes.  Vicki was a 1964 graduate of Allen Jay High School and attended Wake Forest School of X-ray Technology before marrying Ted on June 19, 1965. The first Tuesday evening of each month the graduating classes of Allen Jay meets for dinner and chatting, and she was thrilled to join them as she could. They are among her very best friends.

Volunteer service was a calling for Vicki. She participated with the American Red Cross for more than 5 years, becoming the High Point-Thomasville chapter vice-chair. Vicki also served on the High Point Mental Health Association board of directors. She was appointed to the committee that first approached NC state officials to petition successfully for the commissioning of High Point's first battered women's shelter. After Ted was transferred to Chattanooga, TN, Vicki continued her community service on the board of directors for the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Mental Health Association.

During the years her children were in college and high school, Vicki worked in the banking, then investment fields. When Ted retired in 2002, she was thrilled to move back to North Carolina, and they were able to travel to many parts of the United States and Canada.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Thomas and Clarence “Acey” Thomas, and sister Shirley Thomas Peatross.

Vicki would become the loving wife of more than 50 years to Garnett T. “Ted” Fallenstein, Jr., of the home; mother to Andrea Fallenstein (Wendy) of the home and Spokane, WA and Bruce (Traci) Fallenstein of Orlando, FL. She was also proud grandmother to Cody, Brandon, Jake, Josh and Joey Fallenstein, and Aubrielle and Austin Stone. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Faye Lassiter Thomas; nephew, Craig (Terri) Thomas; two nieces, Tammy (Jimmy) Fox of Jamestown and Terri Thomas of Archdale; three great-nieces and four great-nephews; many cousins.
