HIGH POINT – William “Bill” Carroll Heard, Jr., 75, died Friday, November 9, 2018, at the Hospice Home of High Point, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born November 5, 1943, in St. Augustine, Florida, and was the son of the late William Carroll and Isabella Ingraham Heard. He attended the University of South Carolina and was an avid Gamecocks fan. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1965-1971, (Semper Fi!) and was a retired sales manager with Armstrong Bros. Tool Company in Chicago and Diamond Saw Works in Chaffee, NY. He was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and was active in the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. Bill was also very involved in the High Point community and served as a volunteer for GPS at the Hayworth Cancer Center. He delivered meals to shut-in’s with Mobile Meals. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Bill is survived by his wife, Susan Hales Heard, to whom he was married 52 years; daughter, Rebecca Heard West and husband, Robert, of St. Augustine, FL; son, William “Bill” Carroll Heard III and wife, Whitney, of High Point; four grandchildren, William “Wills” Carroll Heard IV, Lucy Larkin Rose Heard, Hannah Elaine West and Gracie Anne West; sister, Francie Heard and husband, Billy Byrnes, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; brother, James Ingraham Heard and wife, Misty, of Camden, Maine; brother-in-law, Ed Hales and wife, Judy, of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Barbara Collins Heard of Camden, Maine; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service celebrating Bill’s life will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in High Point. A private committal will follow in the church columbarium. The family will greet friends at a reception in the church parish hall following the service.
