October 7, 1950 ~ November 15, 2023 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Tribute

Mr. William Kenneth “Ken” Leak Sr., 73, of Sophia, NC passed away on November 15, 2023, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 7, 1950, in Louisville, KY, a son to Alvin Jerome and Catherine Louise Hagan Leak. Ken is survived by his beloved bride of fifty-one years, Candy Jo Welch Leak; his daughter Mandy Hill and husband Steve of Archdale; his son William Leak Jr. and wife Heather of Marshville; two sisters, Sandy Clark of Kernersville and Cathy Gardner and husband Brian of Sophia; and seven grandchildren who he adored, Noah Hill, Gracie Hill, Sadie Hill, Paislie Hill, Sydney Leak, Mylie Leak and Addy Leak.

Ken was an extraordinarily selfless and humble man who always put others first, dedicating himself to serving others and finding solace in the act of giving without expectation. He was known for his steadfast work ethic, caregiving nature and witty sense of humor. Ken had a passion for projects, working with his hands, loved being outdoors and firmly believed in completing jobs with precision and excellence. He found joy in fishing, working on cars, and continuously accomplishing improvements and renovations around the home that he built himself over fifty years ago. Ken was a gentle and kind man who spoke volumes with his actions. He was a role model to all, displaying unconditional love for his family and an unwavering commitment to being a humble provider to his cherished wife.

Ken attended Belmont High School and later pursued higher education at Guilford Technical Community College specializing in drafting and design. In his professional life, Ken had a successful career as a draftsman and engineering technician. He began his career working for the City of High Point, and was later employed by Moore, Gardner & Associates in Asheboro. Shortly thereafter he became an AutoCAD Designer at Arcadis (formerly Finkbeiner, Pettis & Strout) in Greensboro, where he worked for almost forty years creating municipal water treatment and stormwater projects for cities and counties nationwide. Always willing to help, Ken leveraged his drafting expertise outside of normal working hours by voluntarily producing and drawing plans for various structures, improvements and buildings for his church, as well as other churches and contractors in the area.

Ken worshipped with his family at Gospel Baptist Church in Archdale for over forty-five years, where he found support and strength through his faith and relationship with Jesus. Throughout his time there, Ken served in numerous roles, including church deacon, building committees, planning committees, and countless volunteer activities supporting various other ministries. In addition to serving faithfully through his church, Ken was a remarkable life-giving saint, having donated blood to the American Red Cross an astounding number of times during his life.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, NC, on Sunday, November 19, 2023, with his son-in-law Rev. Steve Hill, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point.

Ken will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His selflessness, humor, and love for his wife, family and grandchildren will forever be cherished.
