James Arthur Petty
May 2, 1948 ~ January 5, 2024 (age 75) 75 Years Old
HIGH POINT- James Arthur Petty, 75, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024.
He was born on May 2, 1948, in Jacksonville, Florida, a son of the late William and Nancy Taylor Petty. He had been a resident of Jacksonville most of his life, before relocating to the High Point area a few years ago. He loved his work at the farmers market where he ran his own produce stand for many years. He was baptized as a Seventh-Day Adventist early in his life, but then turned his back on God for many years. In 2020 he recognized God’s voice speaking to his heart. He became the most faithful participant on the Thomasville church prayer line and answered a call for baptism. He rededicated his life to God and was rebaptized on April 9, 2022, in the Asheboro Seventh-Day Adventist Church, becoming a member of the Thomasville Seventh-Day Adventist church. God gave him freedom from the intense anger he felt resulting from the tragic murder of his youngest sister. James enjoyed Deep Sea fishing, gardening, and all kinds of animals. He loved to make people smile. In his younger years, he enjoyed working on his farm. He loved spending time with his family and praying for others. He will be remembered as a man with a tender heart and will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Petty; three brothers and ten sisters.
He is survived by his children, James Arthur Petty II (Cheryl) and Jessica Weakland; his sister, Susie and his grandchildren, James Arthur Petty III, Jordan Matthew Petty, Hannah Merie, Rebekah Ann, Sarah Rachel, Jacob Aaron, and Elijah Nathiel.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, at the Asheboro Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1897 Trogdon Hill Road, Asheboro, NC 27205, with Pastor Mark Kent officiating.
