Mr. Charles Ray Skeen, 81, of High Point, died Thursday, August 23, 2012, at Hospice Home of High Point.
Charles was born in Randolph County on April 19, 1931, a son to the late Noah and Grace Robbins Skeen. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Elwood Skeen, Noah “June” Skeen and Sammy Skeen. On February 16, 1951, he married the love of his life, the former Joyce James. Charles was the owner and operator of Peoples Service Station, Superb Service Station, and West Green Gulf until his retirement. He was a member of High Point Couples Motorcycle Club and participated in several charity Poker Runs. Charles was an avid sports fan and loved the Braves, Redskins, NASCAR and ACC basketball. He was a member of Christ Gospel Baptist Church and the last 12 years of his life he really loved and enjoyed going to church. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce James Skeen of the home; two children, Brenda Skeen Huffman and her husband, Rev. Tim of High Point and Michael Ray Skeen and his wife, Barbara of Trinity; one sister, Naomi Grubb and her husband, James of Thomasville; one brother, Tommy Skeen of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Angela Huffman Hunt and her husband, Brian of Thomasville; Kevin Matthew Huffman and his wife, Jamie of Nashville, Christopher Charles Skeen of High Point, and Jennifer Rae Skeen of High Point; three great grandchildren, Damian Scott Williams, Noah Evan Hunt, Madden Jay Huffman, and a great granddaughter soon to arrive; and several nieces and nephews.
