President
James Cumby was born into the funeral business. He worked part-time with his parents while in high school and after graduation, he attended the Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science. James later went on to receive his degree in Business Administration from the University of Alabama. He has been a licensed funeral service professional since 1962. On May 12, 2011, James celebrated 50 years of working with Cumby Family Funeral Service.
Managing Partner
Andrew Cumby received his Funeral Service Degree in 2000, from Fayetteville Technical Community College. After graduating, he moved back to High Point, and joined Cumby Family Funeral Service on a full time basis. Andrew spent a year in Atlanta, Georgia working for Wages & Sons Funeral Service, where he learned about crematory operations and crematory management. He is a licensed funeral director, embalmer, and crematory operator.
Ambassador
Hampton is the great-grandson of our founders, Wade and Edith Cumby. Even at a young age, he exhibits a keen desire to continue the legacy of over seven decades of compassion and care for our community at Cumby Family Funeral Service.

Cy Books also grew up in the funeral business. He received his license in 1985 and his degree from Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta. Prior to joining Cumby Family Funeral Service, Cy lived in the Charlotte area, where he managed a funeral home.

A native of High Point, Mickey has enjoyed a long career in funeral service and joined the Cumby team in 2002. He is a former little league coach, served three terms on the town council, is a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church and the Jamestown Rotary Club. He and his wife of 56 years, Dianne, reside in Jamestown.

Tommy joined Cumby Family Funeral Service in December 2015. He received his diploma (honors) in funeral service in 1990 from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service, Atlanta, GA, and in 1995 received his Bachelor of Arts degree (Summa Cum Laude) in Religion from Southern Wesleyan University, Central, SC. He received his North Carolina Funeral Service license in October 1990 and became a certified crematory operator in March 2016. He has previously served funeral homes in Greensboro and Statesville. Tommy attends Hayworth Wesleyan Church and his hobbies include stamp collecting, reading and visiting presidential gravesites. He has three children – Caleb, Abbey and Josiah, and currently lives in Archdale with his dachshund, Isabel.

Jonathan received his Funeral Service Education degree in 1994 and his Funeral Service License in 1995. He had worked with Cumby Family Funeral Service from 1997 until 2011, and returned in 2014. He and his wife, Krista, have four children, Wesley, Grace, Seth and Faith.

Stan joined Cumby Family Funeral Service in April of 2021. Originally from South Carolina, he is a graduate of Anderson University and Gardner-Webb University. Stan began his career in 2000 in his hometown of Laurens, SC, and has been licensed to practice funeral service since 2002. He holds funeral director licenses in North Carolina, South Carolina, and New York. Stan’s wife was born and raised in High Point and they have three daughters, Grace, Sallie, and Parker.

Cody joined Cumby Family Funeral Service in January of 2023. A native of Randolph County, he obtained his degree in mortuary science with honors from Fayetteville Technical Community College. Cody currently holds a North Carolina Funeral Service License and is a CANA Certified Crematory Operator.

Barry joined the Cumby Family in November 2015 following over 15 years of ministry in South Africa and Zimbabwe. He and his wife, Linda, have one daughter, Kelly (Greg) and one grandson, Tanner. Barry is a licensed funeral director and also a CANA certified crematory operator.
Embalmer
Summer graduated from Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Services in 2018. She joined Cumby’s in November of 2021. She and her husband, Will, have one child, Marlea, and two dogs, Brudy and Louise.

Ray has been with Cumby Family Funeral Service since 1955, longer than any other employee. He has been active in the Archdale community his entire life and is a licensed funeral director.

Mike Stewart joined the Cumby Family in 2019, coming to us following his service to families in Madison, NC. He became a licenses funeral director in 1977 and began his service in Walnut Cove in 1988. Mike is married to Alena Stewart and is the father of three children and four grandchildren.

A native of Davidson County, Makeba joined Cumby's in March of 2014, working in various capacities, such as, pre-planning, aftercare, administration and community outreach. Makeba serves on numerous boards and is very active in many organizations within Davidson and Guilford County, including Thomasville Rotary Club, Cancer Services of Davidson County, Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center Foundation Board and Habitat for Humanity. Her passion for helping families grew out of her love of people...something she credits her parents for instilling at a young age.

A native of Randolph County, Lisa resides in Sophia with her husband, Keith. They have one daughter, Kelly and husband, Adam; five grandchildren, Landon, Colby Grace, Lane, Logan and Maxton; and a beloved golden retriever, Sophie. Lisa is a member of the Archdale-Trinity Rotary Club and is active with the Archdale-Trinity Chamber of Commerce. She attends Grace Church in High Point. She has been employed with Cumby Family Funeral Service since 1990 and is administration manager at both the High Point and Archdale locations.

Originally, from Syracuse, New York, Susan relocated to North Carolina and joined the Cumby team in 2013. She resides in Thomasville near her son, Bryan, and daughter, Heather. The lights of her life are her five grandchildren, Audrey, Chloe, Silas, Eli and Hadley. In her free time, Susan enjoys gardening, reading and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Angela joined our staff in June 2019 and handles the administrative operations at our Archdale location. Before joining Cumby Family Funeral Service, she was already actively serving the Archdale-Trinity community at Archdale Drug where she had enjoyed working for Ryan Hoskins for the past several years. She has one son, River who is very active in sports. When she is not helping serve the community along with the outstanding staff at Cumby’s, she enjoys spending time at the ballfield watching River play baseball or football. She and River reside in Archdale.

Debbie is a native of High Point and joined Cumby's in June of 2017, after retiring from the Guilford County Register of Deeds. She attended High Point University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree. Debbie attends Christ United Methodist Church and resides in High Point with her dachshund, Hannah, and beagle, Buddy.

Aimee joined the Cumby Team in 2021. She was born and raised in Michigan. However, she loves it in the south, living for 13 years in South Carolina and now North Carolina for the last 3 years. She and her husband, Mike, reside in Thomasville. The biggest highlight in Aimee’s life is her family. Aimee and Mike have one son, Carter and his wife, Hannah. Also being “Mimi” to her granddaughter, Blair Phelan, is a pure delight. But she can’t leave out her grandpups and grandcats, Carmella, Elliott, Tucker and Luna. For most of her adult life, she has been active on the administrative side of the funeral services. Aimee feels called to help the families that Cumby’s serve.

Roger has 49 years of Pastoral experience and presently is the Pastor of Whispering Hope Baptist Church in High Point. He is married to his wife, Lisa, they have 2 children, Matthew and Hannah, and have 2 grand-dogs, Lilly and Dixie. Roger has a heart for helping people in their time of need.

Bill joined the Cumby Family in August 2015 fulfilling a dream dating back to his Junior High School days. He and his wife Connetha live in Trinity with their German Shepherd Bella and lap cat Razzi. They have two children, two grandchildren and two grandpuppies. Bill and Connetha attend Hope Baptist Church where he has served in several ministries and now serves as the Senior Ministry Leader. He is very active in the community and has been a member of the Archdale-Trinity Lions Club since 1999.

Eddie is a funeral director's assistant at our funeral home in High Point. He's very active in the Jamestown, High Point and Archdale area and is an avid Duke fan.

Larry joined the Cumby family in March of 2013. He serves as a greeter and funeral service ambassador in both High Point and Archdale. He and his wife, Debbie, are members of Green Street Baptist Church.

Don joined the Cumby family in 2022 after retiring from Washington Mutual Financial following a thirty year career. He resides in Thomasville with his wife, Beverly. They have been married for 52 years and have two children and nine grandchildren. Don and Beverly attend Church Street Baptist Church in Greensboro.

Robert "Bob" Hyde was a long time greeter and director's assistance at our Archdale facility.

Barney was an active member of the Archdale community most of his life, mostly working in sales. He was a greeter at our Archdale facility and a funeral director's assistant. He was a member of Colonial Baptist Church in Trinity. Barney loved his Lord, his family and helping people.

Leroy was a longtime resident of the High Point community and an ambassador with Cumby Family Funeral Service. He was a committed and active member of First Wesleyan Church. In earlier years, he worked as owner of L. Vernon & Company, specializing in church furnishings and equipment.
