Charles William "C.W." Scott

January 21, 1923 ~ October 18, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Charles William “C.W.” Scott, 94, entered into his eternal home October 18, 2017 at the Hospice Home of High Point.

C.W. was born on January 21, 1923 in Princeton, Kentucky to the late Herbert Scott and Anna Cavanaugh Scott.  After attending high school in Princeton, he enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during WWII. He served in the European Theater, rising to the rank of Technical Sergeant, then remained for another year to assist in rebuilding in London, Paris and Frankfurt.

C.W. returned to Princeton and was active in many civic organizations in the community, including serving as President of the Princeton Country Club in 1962.  From 1946 – 1948 he worked at First Bank and Trust Co. and from 1948 – 1964, he began his career in textile management at the Princeton Hosiery Mill. He accepted the position of plant manager with Trimfit, Inc. in 1964 and moved to High Point. C.W. was plant manager for three Trimfit facilities in Thomasville, as well as periodic assignments in other states, until he retired in 1984.

“Scotty” had many interests, but he had a true passion for golf;  he was a scratch golfer and over the years had three holes-in-one.  Many happy hours were spent with his buddies on the golf course. He loved being outdoors and took meticulous care of his yard, taking special pride in growing roses.  He enjoyed a close relationship with his granddaughter, CJ, with whom he shared a dry sense of humor and many a fine fall day playing ball or raking huge piles of leaves on which to leap. He was a faithful member of Hayworth Wesleyan Church for many years and enjoyed the camaraderie of friends there.

In addition to his parents , he was preceded in death by one of his sisters, Miladean Scott Hill.

Those who remain to cherish C.W. in memory are his wife of 30 years, Hazel Lewis Scott; daughter, Christie Carroll DaVanzo of Greensboro; son, Terry Lee Scott of Ohio; three grandchildren, C.J. DaVanzo of Carrboro, and Terry Lynn Scott and Kristi Scott, both of Ohio; sisters, Dorothy Scott Martin of Winston-Salem, Geralene Scott Anderson (Jimmy) of  Princeton,Kentucky; and brother, Herbert Lee Scott (Bettie) of Chatanooga,Tennessee.

A service to honor his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Hayworth Wesleyan Church, 1696 Westchester Drive, High Point. Reverends Brian Matherlee and David Emery will officiate.  Keith Martin, Ray Carter, Bob McLaughlin, Alex Teglas, Don Carr, and “Moochie” Smith will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, from 1:15 until 1:45 p.m.

Entombment will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery mausoleum in High Point.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making memorial contributions to Hayworth Wesleyan Church or to the Hospice Home of High Point. Our deepest thanks go to the staff of Hospice Home, as well as to family and friends, who have so graciously and kindly supported us through this difficult time.
