Mrs. Joyce Ward Davis, 89, departed this earth on October 14, 2017.
Joyce Rozella Ward was born on August 9, 1928, in High Point to the late John E. Ward, Sr., and Nannie Bell Dodson. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brother Jay Ward.
As a young girl, Joyce often helped her Dad with his business, Ward’s Grocery on East Green Street.
After graduating from High Point (Central) High School, Joyce attended High Point College. Then she worked for R. K. Stewart and Son. During this time, she met the love of her life, John R. Davis, Jr. They were married on December 7, 1947, at Calvary Methodist Church and shared sixty-two years until he passed away on March 30, 2010. Joyce was a fulltime homemaker and loving mother to their three children. She returned to work when her son was eight. For many years she worked at the Kiddie Keeper on Green Street and enjoyed teaching four-year-olds. She was involved in her Covenant Methodist United Church from the time she was young. Joyce played the piano for her Sunday school class, worked with the youth, was active in her Circle, and made many prayer shawls for whoever needed them.
Joyce is survived by daughter Jane Greene and her husband Larry of Winterville, NC; daughter Debbie Snell and her husband Paul of Fayetteville, NC; and Son Randy Davis and wife Lisa of High Point. Joyce is also survived by her four grandchildren, Shannon Snell of Fayetteville, Cassie Lynn and her husband, Keegan of Wilmington, NC, John Davis of Raleigh, NC and Joe Davis and his wife Cecile of High Point. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Lyric Kahele and Gavin Kahele of Fayetteville, NC and Sydney Lynn and Mariana Lynn of Wilmington, NC. Grandson Lynn is due in January. She is also survived by her sweet sister-in-law Carole Ward Heavener and several nieces.
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at 2pm Tuesday October 17, 2017 in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 East Chester Dr. in High Point with the Reverends Michelle Foster-Beckerleg and Kirk LeJeune officiating.
The family will receive friends and family at the chapel one hour before the service. The graveside service will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Services will be handled by Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
