Marjorie Hughes Johnson

HIGH POINT-Marjorie Hughes Johnson, 87, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.

She was born on April 5, 1930 in Guilford County, to the late Archie and Lillian Jones Hughes. A resident of this area all of her life, she retired from Roses Department Store after 34 years of service. She was a long time active member of First Congregational Christian Church, where she served in various capacities over the years.  Marjorie loved her church and worked very hard to help meet its needs; whether she was baking cakes to sale at a yard sale, and donating the money, or just there to lend a helping hand and support the congregation and their pastor. She enjoyed working in her yard; especially in her flowers, mowing and cooking. Her true love and passion was spending time with her family; particularly her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her husband, James Johnson; her brother, Reid Hughes and her beloved sister in-law and friend of 70 years, Louise Patton.

She leaves to cherish her memory; her sons, Ron Johnson and his wife Gretchel of Beech Mountain, NC and Steve Johnson and his wife Jessie of High Point. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Marjorie’s life will be held on Sunday, April 30, at 2 pm, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, with Reverend Harold Shives and Reverend Walter Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. Her family will receive friends on Saturday, April 29, from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home.
