Mike Washburn

Michael Duane “Mike” Washburn, age 54, a resident of Thomasville, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014.

He was born on August 28, 1959 in Bonner County, Idaho to Charles Donald Washburn and Imogene Burchette Washburn. He had lived in this area most of his life and was a 1977 graduate of Trinity High School.  Mike was a real estate broker with Keller Williams and also owned Washburn Group Incorporated.  He was a member of Archdale United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Jeff Patterson Sunday school class, the United Methodist Men and also helped in the Neighborhood cafe. He had a passion for cooking, especially participating in barbecue cook-off competitions and was an avid Wolfpack fan. Mike was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Virginia Thomas Wasburn; his daughter, Michala Chandler Washburn; his step-son, Matthew Cromer and his wife Anna; his mother, Imogene Burchette Lookabill. Also surviving are his sisters, Joyce Craven and her husband Billy and Becky Dunlap and her husband Jamey; his grandchildren, Emory Noel Cromer and William Matthew “Weant” (Green Bean) Cromer who is due in early August.

A service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Archdale United Methodist Church, with Reverend Dr. Stuart Noell and Reverend Harold Shives officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30 until 9 at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mike’s memory may be sent to The Take Two Bus Fund of Archdale United Methodist Church, PO Box 4096 Archdale, NC 27263. The family request that in honor of Mike that those attending his service wear something red “Go Wolfpack”.
