Oscar Woodrow "Woody" Chastain, Jr.

September 28, 1943 ~ June 18, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years Old

On Father’s Day, June 18th, 2017, Oscar Woodrow (Woody) Chastain Jr. went home to be with his heavenly Father at 3:16am, after a brief illness.  He was elated to be surrounded by family and friends and passed peacefully into heaven.

Woody was born in High Point, North Carolina on September 28th ,1943 to Oscar Woodrow Chastain Sr. and Olivia Bennett Chastain.  He graduated from High Point Central High School in 1961.  After a brief stint in the National Guard, he began work for Norton Coated Abrasives where he worked for 29 years.  After retiring from Norton, Woody worked in retail sales.

Woody lived for his family.   He met his lifelong best friend and future wife, Jackie Turney, when he was sixteen years old.  They were married on July 2nd, 1965 and shared fifty-two wonderful years of marriage together.  You rarely saw one without the other.

Woody’s hobbies included building model cars and airplanes. He enjoyed attending air shows with his children and grandchildren.

Supporting his daughters, Amy and Lesli was a passion for Woody. He was present in everything they did, from academics to athletics.  He took great pride in their accomplishments throughout their childhood and adult lives.

A doting grandfather, Paw cherished spending time with his grandchildren Jackson and Emery.  When they were young he loved picking them up from school, cheering for them in sports, and vacationing with them.  More recently he often planned his days around Jackson’s college basketball games and his spirits were always lifted when Emery dropped by for a visit.

Faith and devotion to family were important to Woody and his life was a testament to both. His influence will last forever for those who were close to him.

Woody was preceded in death by his parents Oscar Woodrow Chastain, Sr. and Olivia Bennett Chastain; an infant sister Claudia Kaye Chastain; as well as his loyal companion (dog) Rufus.

He is survived by his wife Jackie Chastain; daughter Amy Chastain Kent and son-in-law Robert Kent; daughter Lesli Olivia Chastain; grandson Jackson Ross Kent; granddaughter Emery Elizabeth Kent; sister Brenda Valle and brother-in-law Scott Valle; and devoted pets Mimi and Bennett.
