Virgie Jackson Edwards

Mrs. Virgie Jackson Edwards, 93, of High Point, NC passed away peacefully on April 20, 2017 at Shannon Gray Center in Jamestown, NC.  Born January 21, 1924 in Johnston County, NC, she was the daughter of Clara Morris Jackson and Joseph Foye Jackson.

After high school Virgie left the country life for the big city of Greensboro where she became a seamstress at Greensboro Overall Company. Her life was changed forever when she met Lawrence Oliver Edwards at work. They married and had three children. Due to Lawrence’s work transfer, they moved to Clinton, SC in 1956, returning to High Point in 1966.  A stay at home mom, she was always very involved with her children’s activities serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother, Campfire Girls leader, and Sunday school teacher. She was an active member of United Methodist Women at First United Methodist Church in High Point. A talented seamstress, crafter, and quilter, she also enjoyed raising beautiful flowers and sweet dogs.

Virgie was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Edwards, daughter Patricia Edwards, siblings Eudell (Lonnie) Hooks, Ruby (Lee) Hooks, Willard (Lillie) Jackson and Carl Jackson. She is survived by her son Lawrence Jr. (Jane ) of High Point and daughter Jenny (Eddie) Perry of Seneca, SC, and sister- in law Mary Jackson of Selma, NC. She also leaves four grandchildren, Ashley Edwards, Meredith Edwards Woehr, Shannon Perry Nimmons, and Jonathan Perry and nine great –grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017 in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church in High Point, NC with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point.
