Mrs. Betsy Anderson Johnson, 87, of High Point, North Carolina, passed away on February 18, 2017, at the Hospice Home in High Point.
Betsy was born on August 24, 1929, in High Point to the late Herschel Anderson and Myrtle Teague Anderson.
Aside from some time in her youth when her family moved to Michigan, Betsy spent most of her life in High Point and she and her husband raised their family here. Betsy graduated from High Point High School, Class of 1947, and attended High Point College where she met her husband, Joseph Addison Johnson, Jr. They were married on June 24, 1949 and raised four (4) daughters.
She and her husband owned Peerless Flooring Company. When her husband died in 1996, she maintained and ran the business after his death for fifteen (15) years.
In her spare time, Betsy loved to sew and to work with fabrics. She was an exceptional seamstress. Betsy was an avid reader, with a special interest in politics. She loved walking with her friends in her Cherokee Hills neighborhood and she was an excellent cook. Her quick smile and her constant grace will remain always in the hearts and memories of her family and friends.
She was a participant in many civic organizations in the city of High Point and had been a faithful member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church since 1949. She was active in the life of her church and the church in turn was a core part of her life.
Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph Addison Johnson, Jr., and a brother, John Watson Anderson. She is survived by her four (4) daughters, Karen Johnson Sawyer of Martinsville, VA; Margaret Johnson Nickens and husband, Tom, of High Point, NC; Jane Johnson McAllister and husband, Ken, of High Point, NC; Jo Johnson Bishop and husband, Dan, of Charlotte, NC; four (4) grandchildren, Kasey Sawyer McFarling, Kerri Sawyer Gates, Megan Nickens Grohs and Jack Bishop. She is also survived by four (4) great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Betsy’s life will be held on February 21, 2017_at 11:00_a.m. in the chapel at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in High Point, officiated by the Reverend Dr. J.
Alexander Ward, Jr. and the Reverend Jared Stine. The family will receive friends in the Asbury Room following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262, Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1225 Chestnut Drive, High Point, NC 27262..
